Still 2000th In Line

Installation reflects a transitional space in which an individual exists between states, suspended within the uncertainties of immigration. Informed by lived experiences, the installation explores the prolonged periods of anticipation that shape the immigrant journey — waiting in queues, waiting in visa centres, waiting for status updates, and waiting for the sense of integration within a new society. Over time, waiting gradually becomes a normal state.

In these moments, social engagement is placed on hold. Memories and dream-like fragments begin to overshadow everyday life, while digital communication and virtual environments — including VR worlds — become essential yet disorienting substitutes for physical connection with family, friends, and community.

Digital artefacts, caught within the textures of metaverse worlds, intersect with tangible objects of the physical environment, as if existing in two realities at once. These elements seem to occupy two realities at once. Painterly brush strokes merge with digital glitches, and suspended, surreal objects contribute to an atmosphere of emptiness, and indeterminacy.
